First Separate Edition. Nottingham: Ishmael Wilson & Son. Large Post 8vo. 4 leaves, 1-4 folded and stapled. An acceptable copy of this work. Pale blue wraps. There is staining and foxing to the covers, and the staples have come away (leaving the inside pages loose). This poem was first issued in "Songs of the Road" published by Smith Elder & Co. In 1911 and re-issued by John Murray. The separate edition of "Bendigo's Sermon" was published by Wilson, who had been a newsagent in Nottingham since 1874. His publications were printed on a small "cropper" machine, two pages at a time (Green, 2000, p76) William Abednego Thompson (18 October 1811 - 23 August 1880) was an English bare-knuckle boxer. Born in Nottingham in 1811, Thompson was the last of 21 children, himself one of triplets named Abednego, Shadrach and Meshak, after the young men in the Book of Daniel who emerged from the fiery furnace of Babylon. (Green & Gibson A34c). Very scarce work. ; 8vo 7 ¾" - 9 ¾" tall

A nice copy of this First US Edition in cloth. Lacks wrapper. Mainly clean and tidy covers - although there is a circular glass stain to the front board. No major dirt. No chips or tears. A little bumping / edge wear only. Internally mainly clean and tidy, with no major damage to it. Some darkening to the page edges. Neat inscription; 8vo 7 ¾" - 9 ¾" tall
